Blue Jackets go for fourth straight win over Red Wings

DETROIT (Ticker) - With the most points in the NHL, the Detroit Red Wings are essentially playing for playoff position. The Columbus Blue Jackets are trying to reach the postseason for the first time.

The teams meet on Wednesday in the back end of a home-and-home set.

The Blue Jackets defeated Detroit, 4-3, on Sunday before posting a 3-0 victory over Calgary on Tuesday. Backup goaltender Fredrik Norrena made 18 saves for Columbus.

The Blue Jackets are seven points behind Vancouver, Colorado and the Flames in the race for a Western Conference playoff berth. The three teams are tied with 84 points and occupy the sixth, seventh and eighth spots.

Columbus and the Red Wings have met five times to date in the regular season. Oddly enough, the Blue Jackets have won the last three games after dropping the first two.

Following Wednesday's game, the teams will meet Saturday in Columbus and April 3 in Detroit.

Left wing Rick Nash and right wing Nikolai Zherdev have combined for seven goals and 10 assists against the Red Wings this season. Center Pavel Datsyuk, defenseman Nicklas Lidstrom and right wing Tomas Holmstrom have a combined seven goals and 11 assists versus the Blue Jackets.
