Blackhawks go for second straight win
Nov 12, 2006 - 3:14 PM Columbus (5-8-1) at Chicago (5-9-1) 7:00 pm ESTCHICAGO (Ticker) -- The Chicago Blackhawks go for a rare second straight triumph when they host the Columbus Blue Jackets on Sunday.
The Blackhawks needed a victory as badly as a club possibly could, and finally got it in a 3-1 victory over the St. Louis Blues on Friday. Radim Vrbata scored two power-play goals to help Chicago end its eight-game winless streak.
A reason for Chicago's recent slide is costly injuries as three of the Blackhawks' top players - forwards Martin Havlat and Michal Handzus, and top goalie Nikolai Khabibulin - are sidelined.
Anson Carter scored the lone goal in Columbus' 4-1 loss to the Edmonton Oilers on Friday. It was only his second tally of the season but was notable because it was the 1,000th goal in Blue Jackets history.
Columbus has dominated the recent series with Chicago, winning seven of the last 10 meetings. The Blue Jackets defeated the Blackhawks, 5-4, to spoil Chicago's home opener on October 7.
