Iginla, Flames look to solidify playoff position
Mar 24, 2008 - 1:42 PM Calgary (39-26-10) at Colorado (39-31-6) 9:30 pm EDTDENVER (Ticker) - Jarome Iginla and the Calgary Flames look to continue their surge toward the playoffs when they visit the Colorado Avalanche on Monday.
Calgary has won two straight and is coming off a 5-4 victory over Minnesota on Saturday, which pulled the Flames within one point of the Wild (40-27-9) for first place in the Northwest Division.
Iginla ignited the Flames attack with his seventh career hat trick, while All-Star defenseman Dion Phaneuf had one tally and two assists. The Calgary captain, Iginla has eight goals and four assists in last seven contests.
The Avalanche are hanging on to the eighth and final spot in the Western Conference, leading Nashville (37-31-8) by just two points.
Colorado is desperately in need of a win, losing four straight games after a 7-5 setback at Edmonton on Saturday.
Milan Hejduk had a goal and an assist, marking his first multi-point contest since February 26 and Joe Sakic had two assists - including the 1,000th of his career - in the defeat.
It is the final meeting between the two teams this season with Calgary going 3-1-3 against Colorado in the previous seven.
