Red Wings nearing Presidents' Trophy

ST. LOUIS (Ticker) - The Detroit Red Wings attempt to move closer to clinching the best record in the NHL for the third time in four seasons on Tuesday when they meet the St. Louis Blues.

In addition to capturing its 11th Central Division title, Detroit overcame a 1-8-2 slide during February become the first team to clinch a playoff berth this season, mostly on the power of a 8-2-0 stretch over its last 10 contests.

With six games left to play, the Red Wings hold a seven-point lead over second-place San Jose (45-21-9) atop the Western Conference standings.

Detroit kept the accolades coming with its latest win, 4-1, over Columbus on Saturday.

Pavel Datsyuk scored a shorthanded goal and Henrik Zetterberg scored his team-leading 40th goal in the win for the Red Wings, who became the first team to win at least 50 contests in three consecutive seasons since Montreal did it four years in a row from 1975-79.

Winning at the Scottrade Center has been tough for Detroit, which has dropped two of its three games here this season.

However, the Blues have struggled to a 4-5-1 mark over their last 10 home games and will be playing their first home game since March 4.
