Canucks, Flames meet in crucial Northwest Division matchup

Mar 25, 2008 - 1:21 PM Vancouver (38-27-10) at Calgary (39-27-10) 9:00 pm EDT

CALGARY, Alberta (Ticker) - The Vancouver Canucks have a few opportunities to pass the Calgary Flames in the Western Conference standings.

The Northwest Division rivals meet for the first time in nearly three months on Tuesday when the Canucks visit the Flames.

The Canucks suffered a 2-1 loss to the Flames the last time the two teams met on December 31. However, Vancouver owns a 4-1-0 record this season against the Flames, who play three of their six remaining games against their division counterpart.

Vancouver (38-27-10) is currently tied with the Colorado Avalanche (40-31-6) for eighth place in the West with 86 points but trail the Flames (39-27-10) by just two points in the conference standings.

Vancouver had a three-game winning streak snapped on Friday during a 2-1 loss to the Minnesota Wild. Roberto Luongo made 19 saves in the loss while Sami Salo scored the Canucks only goal on a power play in the third period.

Meanwhile, the Flames had a two-game win streak of their own come to end, enduring a 2-0 loss to the Avalanche on Monday.
