Canucks face Wild in final road game of season

ST. PAUL, Minnesota (Ticker) - The Minnesota Wild and Vancouver Canucks are only separated by five points, but are in different scenarios concerning Western Conference playoff picture.

While the Wild are sitting in third place in the West, the eighth-place Canucks are in a dogfight with Nashville and Edmonton for the final spot.

Minnesota also is one point ahead of Calgary in the chase for the Northwest Division title. A victory on Friday, coupled with a loss by ninth-place Nashville, would lock up Minnesota's second consecutive playoff berth. The Northwest winner will likely be the No. 3 seed in the conference playoffs.

The Wild are 4-2-1 against the Canucks this season and goaltender Niklas Backstrom is 5-0-1 with a 2.09 goals-against average in his last six starts against Vancouver.

The Canucks will attempt to avoid a season-high fourth consecutive loss. Friday's game is the final road contest for Vancouver, which plays its final four games at home.
