Devils, Bruins each looking to improve playoff position

NEWARK, New Jersey (Ticker) - The New Jersey Devils officially clinched a playoff spot on Tuesday, but their current fourth place position is still up for grabs.

New Jersey tries to dim the hopes of one of those teams looking to climb up the standings when they host the Boston Bruins on Wednesday.

The Devils have a two-point lead over the fifth-place New York Rangers (41-27-11), while the Bruins are four points back in a tie for seventh.

New Jersey posted a 2-1 overtime victory over the New York Islanders on Tuesday as Zach Parise tallied the game-winner at the 29 second mark of the extra period.

Boston, which only holds a one-point lead over ninth-place Washington (41-31-8), had its three-game winning streak snapped with a 2-1 overtime loss to Buffalo on Sunday.

David Krejci scored the lone goal in the first period for the Bruins, extending his points streak to four games. The rookie center, who has six goals on the season, has three tallies and five assists over that span.

The Bruins are 1-1-1 against New Jersey this season.
