Sabres look for third straight win over Hurricanes

Nov 13, 2006 - 3:38 PM Buffalo (14-1-1) at Carolina (9-6-3) 7:00 pm EST

RALEIGH, North Carolina (Ticker) - The Carolina Hurricanes defeated the Buffalo Sabres in last season's Eastern Conference finals. But things have been different between the two clubs this season.

The Sabres have defeated the Hurricanes twice this season and look for their third victory in the season series when the clubs meet on Monday.

Buffalo opened the season with a 3-2 shootout victory in Carolina on the night the Hurricanes raised their Stanley Cup banner on October 4 and beat them again, 5-4, on October 20.

Daniel Brier was the hero for Buffalo in Saturday's 5-4 overtime win over the Philadelphia Flyers. Brier tied the game, 4-4, at 17:01 of the third period and won the game 21 seconds into the extra session.

Carolina goes for its third straight victory after a 6-2 rout of the Pittsburgh Penguins on Saturday.

Rod Brind'Amour led the Hurricanes with a goal and an assist while defenseman Mike Commodore and Erik Cole had two assists.
