Streaking Capitals take on struggling Panthers

Nov 13, 2006 - 3:44 PM Washington (7-5-4) at Florida (6-8-4) 7:30 pm EST

SUNRISE, Florida (Ticker) - The Washington Capitals seem to be heading in the right direction but the same cannot be said for the Florida Panthers.

In its last game, the Capitals were outshot by 14 shots and went 0-for-7 on the power play. That usually spells defeat, but Washington won its third game in its last four starts, and looks to keep its streak going when it plays the Panthers on Monday.

The Capitals downed the New York Rangers, 3-1, on Saturday despite the statistics that were not conducive to winning.

Boyd Gordon, Alexander Ovechkin and Matt Pettinger scored for Washington, which got 41 saves from Olaf Kolzig.

Florida has lost three straight, with two of the defeats coming in overtime.

The Panthers were defeated, 4-2, by the New Jersey Devils on Saturday. Stephen Weiss and Chris Gratton scored for Florida, which got a disappointing night from Ed Belfour. The veteran goaltender allowed four goals on just 24 shots.
