Red Wings on the verge of claiming Presidents' Trophy

DETROIT (Ticker) - After a missed opportunity to clinch the Presidents' Trophy on Wednesday, the Detroit Red Wings get another chance when they host the Columbus Blue Jackets on Thursday.

The Red Wings will claim the honor if they pick up one point, or if San Jose (49-21-10) loses to Los Angeles later Thursday.

Detroit had a chance wrap up the top spot in the West on Wednesday, but rival Chicago handed the club a 6-2 setback.

Henrik Zetterberg scored his team-leading 42nd goal in the loss, while Johan Franzen had his five-game scoring streak snapped.

The Blue Jackets are 1-4-1 in their last six games and are coming off a 5-4 shootout loss to Chicago on Sunday.

Andrew Murray tallied a goal and an assist for Columbus, which blew a 3-1 second-period lead in the loss.

Detroit is 4-2-1 against Columbus this season.
