Canucks trying to keep playoff hopes alive vs. Oilers

VANCOUVER, British Columbia (Ticker) - The Vancouver Canucks continue their pursuit of a postseason berth on Thursday when they host the Edmonton Oilers.

With only two games remaining, Vancouver (39-31-10) sits just one point behind the Nashville Predators (40-31-9) for the eighth and final playoff spot in the Western Conference.

The Canucks failed to capitalize on a chance to move into the top eight in the standings on Tuesday, suffering a 4-2 loss to the Colorado Avalanche (43-31-7), who secured a spot in the playoffs with the win.

Willie Mitchell and Ryan Keslar scored the first two goals of Tuesday's contest before Vancouver surrendered four unanswered tallies, falling to 1-5-0 over its last six games.

The Oilers watched their playoff hopes slip away on Tuesday, enduring a 3-2 loss to the Calgary Flames.

Curtis Glenncross tallied at 13:17 of the third period to tie the score, 2-2, before Flames right wing Owen Nolan ended Edmonton's season four minutes later with the game-winning goal.
