Slumping Flyers, Penguins meet in Atlantic Division battle
Nov 13, 2006 - 3:53 PM Philadelphia (3-11-2) at Pittsburgh (7-6-2) 7:30 pm ESTPITTSBURGH (Ticker) -- The two slumping teams meet on Monday in an Atlantic Division matchup when the Philadelphia Flyers visit the Pittsburgh Penguins.
The Flyers are 0-4-1 in their last five while the Penguins are 0-3-2. Pittsburgh, with 16 points, resides in third place while the Flyers are in last with only eight points.
Pittsburgh was hammered, 6-2, by the Stanley Cup champion Carolina Hurricanes on Saturday.
One reason the Penguins have struggled is a lack of production from their older players like John LeClair and Mark Recchi, who scored Pittsburgh's goals on Saturday. LeClair's goal was his first of the season while Recchi's was only his second.
The Flyers come off a wrenching 5-4 overtime loss to the Buffalo Sabres on Saturday.
Philadelphia led, 4-3 late in the third period but allowed a goal to Daniel Brier to tie it. Brier then won the game 21 seconds into overtime. Randy Robitaille scored two goals while Alexandre Picard and R.J. Umberger scored the other goals.
No one has shouted yet.
