Bruins hope to continue momentum, even series
Apr 15, 2008 - 1:12 PM Montreal at Boston 7:00 pm EDT Eastern Conference quarterfinals Canadiens lead, 2-1BOSTON (Ticker) - After losing 13 consecutive games to their archrivals, the Boston Bruins look to win a second straight contest when they meet the Montreal Canadiens in Game Four of the Eastern Conference quarterfinals on Tuesday.
Boston had not defeated Montreal since March 3, 2007 before Sunday's 2-1 overtime victory, which cut the series deficit to two-games-to-one.
All-Star Marc Savard scored the game-winner - his first career playoff goal - at 9:15 of the extra period and also assisted on rookie Milan Lucic's first-period tally. The rookie's goal had given Boston its first lead against Montreal all season.
"It's a great win for us for all the right reasons," Boston coach Claude Julien said. "It gets the monkey off our back. Thirteen losses. Obviously it gets us back in this series but we realize we're still trailing and there's still lots of work to be done."
Despite losing their dominating psychological-edge, the Canadiens are still in control of the series and have won 23 of the 30 all-time meetings.
"No one expected to win in four games," Montreal coach Guy Carbonneau said. "It's going to be a tight series. I'm sure they have the confidence right now, because they beat us once. But you know we still have a lot of games left."
Tom Kostopoulos scored Sunday's lone goal for the Canadiens, while Carey Price made 29 saves. The 20-year-old netminder has a .943 save percentage through his first three career postseason contests.
