Biron, Flyers try to build on solid win

PHILADELPHIA (Ticker) - Martin Biron and the Philadelphia Flyers try to take the series lead when they host the Washington Capitals for Game Three of the Eastern Conference quarterfinals Tuesday.

Biron stopped all 24 shots he faced Sunday as the Flyers evened the series at one win apiece with a 2-0 victory over the Capitals.

Philadelphia was coming off a crushing 5-4 defeat in Game One when it squandered a two-goal lead in the third period. But the Flyers rebounded in stellar fashion, scoring twice in the opening session as they were in control from start to finish.

"I can't put it any plainer," Capitals coach Bruce Boudreau said. "Philadelphia outplayed us, outworked us and out-won the battles on us. We now know that we've got to pay a bigger price if we want to succeed."

"They played smart and they played with a lot of grit," added Capitals goaltender Cristobal Huet, who saw his career-high nine-game winning streak come to an end. "They scored early in the game and they seemed to be on a run after that."

Biron, making his second playoff appearance, helped the Flyers keep All-Star Alex Ovechkin off the scoresheet.

The frontrunner for this season's Hart Trophy as league MVP, Ovechkin led the NHL with 65 goals and 112 points. The Russian left wing became the first player to reach 60 tallies in a dozen years and broke the league record for goals by his position.

Ovechkin, who notched the game-winner in Game One, admitted the obvious about Sunday's loss.

"We didn't score goals," he said. "It's big difference between (the) first game and this game."
