Rangers' top scorers take aim at Devils
Nov 14, 2006 - 2:32 PM New Jersey (10-5-1) at NY Rangers (9-7-1) 7:00 pm ESTNEW YORK (Ticker) - The high-scoring trio of Jaromir Jagr, Michael Nylander and Brendan Shanahan is expected to help keep the New Jersey Devils on their toes.
The New York Rangers hope the threesome can keep its firepower going when they look for their fifth victory in seven November contests in Tuesday's battle against the New Jersey Devils.
After finishing second in the league in scoring last season, Jagr, a five-time Art Ross Trophy winner, leads with 21 assists. He also has 26 points, four behind league-leader Marian Hossa of the Atlanta Thrashers.
Nylander has 25 points and Shanahan 22 to rank among the league's top 10 scorers. Shanahan also has 13 goals to trail Hossa by two in the race for the Maurice Richard Trophy.
Nylander recorded his seventh tally on a power play with 1:51 left and Shanahan and Adam Hall assisted for the Rangers, who took 42 shots on goal in Saturday's 3-1 loss to the Washington Capitals.
The Devils have won four straight games and six of seven to take a two-point lead over the Rangers in the Atlantic Division race.
Patrik Elias and Zach Parise netted first-period power-play goals and Martin Brodeur needed to make just 18 saves for New Jersey in Saturday's 4-2 triumph over the Florida Panthers.
This is the second meeting between the teams since the Devils swept the Rangers in last spring's Stanley Cup playoffs. Shanahan posted his seventh tally and Martin Straka had a goal and an assist to lead New York to a 4-2 win over New Jersey on October 16.
