Red Wings eye ninth straight win, third consecutive shutout

Nov 14, 2006 - 2:39 PM Detroit (11-4-1) at Vancouver (8-9-1) 10:00 pm EST

VANCOUVER, British Columbia (Ticker) - The way the Vancouver Canucks have played lately, a meeting with the Detroit Red Wings could not come at a worse time.

The Red Wings look to post their ninth straight win - and perhaps their third consecutive shutout - when they hook up with the Canucks on Tuesday.

Detroit has scored more than three goals only twice in its streak and has not tallied more than four times since October 11 - a span of 14 contests. But the Red Wings also have surrendered a total of 10 goals during their run, with goaltender Dominik Hasek not yielding a tally in 153 minutes, 28 seconds.

Hasek was the netminder in Detroit's consecutive 3-0 victories over Edmonton and Nashville last week. He turned aside 21 shots in the win over the Predators for his 71st career shutout and third this season.

Robert Lang, defenseman Nicklas Lidstrom and Daniel Cleary scored for the Red Wings, who lead the Central Division and are second in the Western Conference with 23 points.

Meanwhile, the Canucks have lost two straight games and five of six, scoring a total of 10 goals in that stretch. They dropped a 3-2 decision to Calgary on Saturday despite taking an early 2-0 lead behind goals from defenseman Sami Salo and Taylor Pyatt.

The teams have not met since Opening Night, when the Canucks posted a 3-1 victory in Detroit.
