Sabres look to keep rolling

Nov 15, 2006 - 4:13 PM Ottawa (6-10-1) at Buffalo (15-1-1) 7:00 pm EST

BUFFALO, New York (Ticker) - Is there anybody who can stop the Buffalo Sabres?

So far, NHL clubs have not been able to, and the injury bug has failed as well. The Sabres go for their fifth straight victory when they host the Ottawa Senators on Wednesday.

Buffalo, which lost Maxim Afinogenov for up to three weeks with a shoulder injury, is running away with the Northeast Division with a six-point lead over the Toronto Maple Leafs, and comes off a 7-4 triumph over the Carolina Hurricanes on Monday.

Wednesday's contest starts a stretch in which the Sabres play five of their next six games at home.

The Sabres and Hurricanes were tied, 3-3, but Buffalo pulled away with four goals in a span of 10 minutes in the third period to improve 10-0-0 on the road this season and extended its NHL record of road victories to start a season.

Jochen Hecht led Buffalo, which has won all three games against Carolina this season, with two goals while Derek Roy had a goal and two assists.

The Senators come off a 6-3 loss to the Montreal Canadiens on Monday. Antoine Vermette, Patrick Eaves and Denis Hamel scored the goals for Ottawa while Martin Gerber allowed five goals on 31 shots.

Buffalo defeated the Senators, 4-3, on October 7 in the only previous meeting of the season.
