Sharks look to rebound following upset loss

Nov 15, 2006 - 4:38 PM San Jose (13-6-0) at Colorado (7-8-2) 9:00 pm EST

DENVER (Ticker) -- The San Jose Sharks should be in a nasty mood when they play the Colorado Avalanche on Wednesday.

The Sharks, who conclude a four-game road trip, come off a 4-2 loss to the lowly Los Angeles Kings on Monday. San Jose entered with a 12-point lead over Los Angeles in the Pacific Division standings.

Milan Michalek and Joe Thornton scored for San Jose, which surrendered two power-play goals. Goaltender Vesa Toskala made 30 saves for San Jose, which was outshot 34-18.

The San Jose power play, the top-ranked unit in the league, has been slumping lately. The Sharks are only 2-for-24 in their last six games with the extra skater.

The slumping Avalanche have lost four of their last five, the latest a 2-1 defeat at the hands of the Edmonton Oilers on Monday.

Milan Hejduk scored the lone goal for Colorado, which has scored only one goal in its last two games. The Avalanche went 0-for-6 on the power play.

Joe Theodore made 30 save for the Avalanche, whose 16 points are tied with Calgary for last place in the Northwest Division. Joe Sakic leads the Avalanche with seven goals and 17 points this season.
