Bruins go for third straight victory vs. Maple Leafs
Nov 16, 2006 - 2:04 PM Toronto (11-5-3) at Boston (6-7-2) 7:00 pm ESTBOSTON (Ticker) - The Boston Bruins look to extend their first winning streak of the season to three games Thursday when they host the Toronto Maple Leafs.
Patrice Bergeron gave the Bruins a 3-2 victory over the Capitals when he scored the only goal of the shootout as Boston netminder Tim Thomas denied all three Washington shooters.
Phil Kessel and Brad Stuart scored the goals in regulation while Thomas recorded 33 saves.
Many thought before the season the Maple Leafs would struggle this season, but so far they have proven their critics wrong. They have won seven of their past eight games and go for a fifth straight victory.
The Maple Leafs have outscored their opponents, 19-7, during their four-game winning streak.
Toronto is coming off an impressive 5-1 drubbing of the Montreal Canadiens on Saturday in which it played without its leading scorer, Mats Sundin (torn elbow ligament), and its top goaltender, Andrew Raycroft (groin strain). Sundin reportedly is two weeks away from returning, but Raycroft is day-to-day.
Defenseman Brian McCabe led the Leafs with two goals and an assist while Tomas Kaberle had a goal and two assists. Backup netminder Jean-Sebastien Aubin made 25 saves.
No one has shouted yet.
