Flyers look to follow improbable victory
Nov 16, 2006 - 2:29 PM Philadelphia (4-12-2) at Los Angeles (6-10-4) 10:30 pm ESTLOS ANGELES (Ticker) - The Philadelphia Flyers continue their four-game road trip against the Los Angeles Kings on Thursday.
But the Flyers will have a tough time duplicating their feat of Wednesday, when they went into Anaheim and stunned the Ducks in impressive fashion, 7-4.
What made the outcome so surprising was the Flyers entered the game with the worst record in the league, while the Ducks set an NHL record by going 16 games to open the season without a regulation defeat.
With the score tied, 1-1, early in the first period, the Flyers exploded for four goals in five minutes to take command of the contest. Sami Kapanen led the Flyers with two goals while Peter Forsberg, Simon Gagne, Mike Knuble and Geoff Sanderson all added a goal and an assist.
Incredibly, the Flyers were outshot, 41-16.
The Kings have gone 2-2-1 in their last five games, but they did register an impressive 4-2 triumph over the San Jose Sharks on Monday.
Alexander Frolov led the Kings with two goals and an assist while Lubomir Visnovsky added a goal and an assist and Dustin Brown had a single tally.
Dan Cloutier made 16 saves for the Kings, who went 2-for-3 on the power play.
No one has shouted yet.
