Islanders go for third straight victory

Nov 17, 2006 - 3:00 PM NY Islanders (8-6-2) at Tampa Bay (9-8-1) 8:00 pm EST

TAMPA, Florida (Ticker) - After a rocky start, the New York Islanders go for their third straight win when they tangle with the Tampa Bay Lightning on Friday.

The Islanders, who started off the season 0-3-0, are coming off an impressive 3-0 victory over the Dallas Stars on Wednesday.

Goaltender Rick DiPietro was sharp in making 35 saves for his first shutout of the season. DiPietro has stopped 67 of the last 68 shots he has faced.

Mike York, Jason Blake and Trent Hunter scored the goals for the Islanders, who went 1-for-6 on the power play.

The Lighting have been playing well lately in winning three of their last four games. However, Tampa Bay must try to rebound from a 3-1 home loss to the Montreal Canadiens on Wednesday.

Vaclav Prospal scored the lone goal for the Lightning, who outshot Montreal, 30-28, but were blanked in three power-play chances.

Marc Denis made 25 saves for Tampa Bay, which allowed three Montreal power-play goals. Tampa Bay stars Vincent Lecavalier and Martin St. Louis each had their 11-game point streaks snapped.
