Resurgent Bruins go for fourth straight victory

BOSTON (Ticker) -- The Boston Bruins go for their fourth consecutive victory when they host the Washington Capitals on Saturday.

The Bruins, who lost nine of their first 13 games, won their third straight with a tight 2-1 victory over the Toronto Maple Leafs on Thursday.

Patrice Bergeron scored the game-winner 34 seconds into overtime and Tim Thomas made 24 saves for the Bruins, who climbed to .500 for the first time since they were 1-1-0. Thomas is 5-1-1 with a 2.78 goals-against average in his last seven starts for the Bruins, who have not won four straight games since March 9-16, 2004.

It was the second straight contest Bergeron was the hero for Boston, as he scored the clinching goal in a 3-2 shootout victory over Washington on Wednesday.

The Capitals will try to rebound from a 4-1 loss to the Carolina Hurricanes on Friday after only getting 22 shots on goal. Richard Zednik scored the only Washington goal on the power play at 9:28 of the third period.

Olaf Kolzig had an off night, allowing four goals on 29 shots.

The Capitals, who have lost two straight and three out of their last five, went 1-for-5 on the power play.
