Maple Leafs try to solve offensive woes vs. Islanders

Nov 20, 2006 - 4:46 PM NY Islanders (9-6-3) at Toronto (11-6-4) 7:30 pm EST

TORONTO (Ticker) -- The Toronto Maple Leafs could use some additional firepower in the midst of one of their busiest stretches of the season.

Playing the second of five contests in an eight-day span, the Maple Leafs look to snap a two-game slide Monday when they battle the New York Islanders, who have won three of four.

Toronto has had to play its last four games without captain Mats Sundin, who led the team with 19 points when he was sidelined with an elbow injury. The Maple Leafs have scored just twice in two contests.

Despite a 34-19 advantage in shots on goal Saturday, including 18 in the third period, Toronto suffered a 2-1 loss to the New Jersey Devils. Darcy Tucker's tally late in the third period prevented the shutout.

Goaltender Mikael Tellqvist played well in his first start of the season after Jean-Sebastien Aubin was unavailable because of the flu. Andrew Raycroft has missed the last three games with a groin injury.

Playing the finale of a five-game road trip, the Islanders rebounded from Friday's one-goal loss to the Tampa Bay Lightning with Saturday's 4-1 victory over the Florida Panthers.

Alexei Yashin had a goal and an assist, Jason Blake netted his 10th tally of the season and Mike Dunham made 43 saves in his first start since November 6 for the Islanders.

Toronto won three of the four encounters against the Islanders last season, including a 4-3 overtime victory in their last matchup on April 13. Matt Stajan netted the game-winner in the extra period for his second goal of the contest.
