Struggling Red Wings seek to snap skid against Blues

DETROIT (Ticker) -- A home game against the lowly St. Louis Blues must be a welcome sight to the struggling Detroit Red Wings.

The Red Wings look to snap their three-game losing streak Friday when they host the Blues.

The reigning Central Division champion, Detroit has struggled offensively throughout the 2006-07 season and has suffered a pair of heartbreaking losses over the last week.

Four days after dropping a 4-3 shootout decision to the Edmonton Oilers, the Red Wings squandered a two-goal lead in their 4-3 overtime loss to the Vancouver Canucks on Wednesday.

Defenseman Mathieu Schneider had a goal and an assist Wednesday for Detroit, which went 1-for-6 on the power play and has converted just 10.5 percent of its man-advantage opportunities this season, the worst mark in the NHL.

However, the Red Wings have had their way with the Blues over the last two years, posting an 8-1-0 record and outscoring their division rival by a 31-15 margin since the beginning of last season.

Tomas Holmstrom tallied twice to lead Detroit to a 3-2 victory over St. Louis in the only prior meeting between the clubs this season.

The Blues hope to carry some momentum from Wednesday's 4-3 shootout triumph over the Columbus Blue Jackets.

Former Red Wings goaltender Manny Legace stopped 29 shots while Bill Guerin netted the winning score in the shootout for the Blues, who snapped a three-game skid.
