Thrashers, Lightning square off in Southeast Divison showdown

Nov 24, 2006 - 4:03 PM Atlanta (13-7-3) at Tampa Bay (11-10-1) 8:00 pm EST

TAMPA, Florida (Ticker) -- In danger of extending their longest losing streak of the season, the Atlanta Thrashers awoke in a flash. They will need to keep up that furious pace against a Southeast Division rival.

The Thrashers hope to carry momentum from a thrilling victory when they visit the Tampa Bay Lightning on Friday in the fourth meeting this season between the division foes.

Facing an early two-goal deficit, Atlanta netted four unanswered goals Wednesday en route to a 4-2 triumph over the Washington Capitals.

Ilya Kovalchuk and Glen Metropolit each had a goal and an assist for the Thrashers, who snapped their season-high four-game skid.

Despite boasting the third-best offense in the NHL, the Thrashers have struggled to score against the Lightning this season, collecting a total of just six goals in three games.

Tampa Bay also is coming off an impressive offensive performance in Wednesday's 6-4 victory over the Florida Panthers.

Ryan Craig had two goals and an assist while defenseman Dan Boyle added a tally and two assists for the Lightning, who have yielded 15 goals over their last three games.
