Richards nets two shorthanded as Flyers top Hurricanes

Sep 28, 2008 - 12:38 AM PHILADELPHIA (Ticker) -- Captain Mike Richards scored a pair of shorthanded goals Saturday to lead the Philadelphia Flyers to a 4-2 preseason victory over the Carolina Hurricanes in one of their final appearances at the Spectrum.

Defenseman Braydon Coburn had a goal and an assist and Joffrey Lupul also scored for the Flyers, who have won three of their four preseason contests.

Matt Murley and Patrick Eaves tallied for the Hurricanes, who are winless in three preseason games.

It originally was scheduled to be the Flyers' last appearance at their former home before it closes after the American Hockey League's Philadelphia Phantoms' 2008-09 season. But an exhibition game was added for October 7 against the Phantoms.

Blue-liner Bryan Berard, who is in training camp with Philadelphia as an invitee, had two assists.

Martin Biron made 25 saves to improve to 3-0-0 this preseason.
