Glencross lifts Flames in overtime

Oct 4, 2008 - 4:31 AM CALGARY, Alberta (Ticker) -- Captain Jarome Iginla started the comeback and Curtis Glencross finished it in dramatic fashion.

Iginla scored twice and added an assist and Glencross netted the winning goal in overtime to lift the Calgary Flames to a 4-3 preseason victory over the Edmonton Oilers on Friday.

A former Oiler, Glencross picked up a loose puck and beat goaltender Jeff Drouin-Deslauriers on a breakaway 2:38 into the extra session, helping the Flames improve to 5-2-0 in exhibition play.

Iginla converted a pass from Brandon Prust 5:58 into the third period for his second goal of the game, forging a 3-3 tie.

Iginla opened the scoring 8:29 into the first, but Andrew Cogliano answered by beating netminder Miikka Kiprusoff 3 1/2 minutes later. Kyle Brodziak staked the Oilers to a one-goal advantage with 1:53 remaining in the session, and Marc Pouliot made it 3-1 with a power-play goal 90 seconds into the second.

After scoring, Pouliot engaged in a fight with Flames defenseman James Vandermeer. Once the officials restored order, Edmonton coach Craig MacTavish threw a bloody towel on the ice and was ejected.

At 9:16 of the second, Jamie Lundmark got Calgary within 3-2 with a man-advantage tally.

Kiprusoff turned aside 21 of 24 shots and was key in holding the Oilers to just one goal on 11 power-play opportunities.

Drouin-Deslauriers made 43 saves in a losing effort, including 23 in the second period.
