Islanders go for fourth win in last five games

Nov 25, 2006 - 3:23 PM Washington (8-8-6) at NY Islanders (11-7-3) 7:00 pm EST

UNIONDALE, New York (Ticker) -- The New York Islanders go for their fourth win in their last five games when they host the Washington Capitals on Saturday.

The Islanders, who are looking for a sweep of their three-game homestand, defeated the Pittsburgh Penguins, 3-1, on Friday in front of their biggest home crowd of the season.

A crowd of 15,625 looked on as Rick DiPietro recorded 35 saves while Miroslav Satan scored a goal and added an assist. Alexei Yashin and Sean Hill scored for the Islanders, who were 0-for-3 on the power play but stopped all nine Pittsburgh power-play chances.

Washington tries to rebound from a 7-1 home loss to the Toronto Maple Leafs on Friday. Alexander Ovechkin tallied his 14th goal of the season for the Capitals.

But Ovechkin's goal was the lone bright spot for the Caps, who were outshot, 28-23, and allowed three power-play goals.

Washington netminder Brent Johnson had a tough night, allowing seven goals on 28 shots. He allowed four goal in a span of just over four minutes that turned a close game into a 6-1 rout.
