Predators take on Stars without injured Arnott

DALLAS (Ticker) -- The Nashville Predators can deny the Dallas Stars their first win of the season but will have to do so without injured captain Jason Arnott when the teams face off on Wednesday.

Arnott, who played with the Stars for three seasons before signing with the Predators before the 2006-07 campaign, suffered a hand injury during Nashville's 3-2 shootout win over the Chicago Blackhawks on Monday.

The 34-year-old veteran recorded 28 goals and 44 assists last season, so his offensive prowess will be missed by the Predators. Arnott shares the team lead with two goals and has added two assists in two games this campaign.

The center is slated to miss this contest as well as both games of the Predators' home-and-home series against the Columbus Blue Jackets this weekend. Nashville then has four days off before taking on the Calgary Flames on October 23.

Dallas still must find a way to contain J.P. Dumont, who will be playing his 600th NHL game. The right wing has yet to net a goal this season but is their leading scorer with five points in three games. I

Currently in his 10th season, he is one point away from reaching the 400-point plateau.

Goaltender Dan Ellis, a second-round pick of the Stars in 2000, made 23 saves to beat the Blackhawks on Monday. He has allowed only three goals in his last two games after surrendering five in a season-opening loss to the St. Louis Blues.

Ellis is 2-0-0 with a 0.50 goals-against average and one shutout in his career against Dallas at the American Airlines Center.

The Stars' last played on Saturday, when they dropped a 3-1 decision to the Predators. In that one, Arnott notched two power-play goals.
