Alfredsson, rejuvenated Senators take on Bruins

Oct 18, 2008 - 10:06 AM Boston (1-1-1) at Ottawa (2-1-1), 7:00 pm EDT

OTTAWA (Ticker) -- It did not take long for a healthy Daniel Alfredsson to rejuvenate the Ottawa Senators.

One night after bouncing back with a win in the All-Star right wing's return to the ice, the rejuvenated Senators face off against the Boston Bruins on Saturday.

Thanks to a week-long layoff in the schedule, the Senators' captain missed only one game - last Saturday's 3-2 loss to the Detroit Red Wings - after having arthroscopic surgery on October 10 to remove a bone chip in his right knee that had become dislodged during the team's season-opening, two-game series against the Pittsburgh Penguins in his native Sweden as part of the NHL Premiere 2008.

During Ottawa's 6-3 win over the Phoenix Coyotes on Friday, Alfredsson recorded two assists while Jason Spezza scored two goals and set up two others. Alfredsson, Spezza and Dany Heatley combined for seven points.

The Bruins, who suffered a 4-3 shootout loss to the Montreal Canadiens on Wednesday, close out their season-opening, four-game road trip at Scotiabank Place. This is the third straight season in which Boston has opened with at least a four-game trek.

Marc Savard has recorded five goals in his first three games this campaign. In 2007-08, Savard did not net his fifth tally until his 21st game on November 26 at Philadelphia.

Boston and Ottawa split their eight meetings last season. However, the Bruins won four of the five matchups after January 1.

Boston's Tim Thomas is 9-5-2 lifetime with a 2.05 goals-against average against Ottawa.

Bruins captain Zdeno Chara, who has registered two goals and three assists in his six visits to Scotiabank Place, returns to Ottawa to face the team with which he spent four seasons prior to signing with Boston before the 2006-07 campaign.
