Crosby looks for milestone goal vs. Maple Leafs

PITTSBURGH (Ticker) -- Sidney Crosby's quest for his 100th career goal already has lasted longer than the Pittsburgh Penguins would like.

Crosby will look to register his first goal of the season when the Penguins host the Toronto Maple Leafs on Saturday.

The Penguins could have used a tally from the 2007 Hart Trophy winner on Thursday, when the club dropped a 4-3 decision to the Washington Capitals. After jumping to a 3-0 lead, thanks in part to a pair of assists from Crosby, Pittsburgh allowed four straight goals despite keeping reigning league MVP Alex Ovechkin off the scoresheet.

The team leader in points with six, Evgeni Malkin scored a goal and added two assists for the Penguins. All three of Pittsburgh's tallies came with the man advantage.

Toronto enters the game winless in its last three games since a season-opening win over the defending Stanley Cup champion Detroit Red Wings.

After a 5-4 shootout loss to the St. Louis Blues on Monday, the Maple Leafs fell to the New York Rangers, 1-0, in the bonus format on Friday.

Vesa Toskala was solid in goal against the Rangers, turning aside all 32 shots he faced for his 12th career shutout. But he was beaten twice in the bonus format, dropping his career record in shootouts to 2-8.

Rookie Nikolai Kulemin leads the Maple Leafs with two goals.
