Canadiens seek best start since 1982 vs. Panthers
Oct 20, 2008 - 1:13 PM Florida (2-2-0) at Montreal (4-0-1) 7:30 pm. EDTMONTREAL (Ticker) -- The Montreal Canadiens' centennial season is off to a terrific start.
Captain Saku Koivu and the Canadiens shoot for a fifth straight win on Monday when they host the Florida Panthers.
Montreal, which is seeking its best start in 26 years, has outscored its opponents 19-8 during its four-game winning streak. Alex Tanguay scored twice and Koivu had a goal and two assists as the Canadiens rolled to a 4-1 victory over Phoenix on Saturday.
Montreal has a chance to open a season with five victories in six games for the first time since 1982-83.
Goaltender Carey Price has been a big reason for the hot start. Price stopped 28 shots on Saturday to improve to 3-0-1 with a 1.92 goals-against average.
Meanwhile, Tomas Vokoun will do his best to beat the team that drafted him. Vokoun stopped 31 shots to record his 26th shutout in a 2-0 victory over the New York Islanders on Saturday. The 32-year-old Czech was a ninth-round pick by Montreal in 1994, but made just one start for the Canadiens.
The Panthers, who went 1-1-2 against Montreal last season, plays eight of their next 10 games on the road.
