Kings eye third straight win vs. Avalanche
Oct 20, 2008 - 1:15 PM Colorado (2-3-0) at Los Angeles (2-2-0) 10:30 pm. EDTLOS ANGELES (Ticker) -- The Los Angeles Kings' penalty killing unit is much-improved, and is a big reason they are seeking a third straight win on Monday against the Colorado Avalanche.
Los Angeles, which tied for the fewest points in the league last season (71), has finished last in penalty killing percentage in each of the past two seasons.
However, they have turned it around this season having killed off all 19 of their opponents power-plays.
On Friday, Los Angeles killed off five power-play chances and Michal Handzus scored his second goal of the game with 1:39 remaining in overtime in a 4-3 win over Carolina.
The Kings penalty killing unit will be tested by Colorado, which has six power-play tallies in its first four games. Milan Hejduk and Ryan Smyth each scored with a man advantage and Andrew Raycroft stopped 26 shots in a 5-4 win over Dallas on Saturday.
Raycroft may be in goal for this one as starter Peter Budaj has been struggling. Budaj is 0-3-0 with a 4.38 goals-against-average in three starts.
