Sundin's three points lead Maple Leafs past Canadiens
Sep 23, 2006 - 2:25 AM TORONTO (Ticker) -- Mats Sundin appears ready for the regular season.Sundin scored one goal and set up two others, leading the Toronto Maple Leafs to a 5-1 preseason victory over the Montreal Canadiens.
The team captain, Sundin helped set up Darcy Tucker's power-play tally 52 seconds into the contest before netting one of his own at 3:06, giving Toronto a 2-0 lead. The veteran Swede also assisted on Alexei Ponikarovsky's goal with 3 1/2 minutes left in the third, which capped the scoring.
John Pohl staked the Maple Leafs to a 3-1 lead with the lone tally of the middle session and Aleksander Suglobov made it a three-goal cushion with 5:21 to go in the third.
Kyle Wellwood registered two assists and Jean-Sebastien Aubin made 22 saves for Toronto, which lost defenseman Staffan Kronwall to a lower leg injury in the first period.
Jonathan Ferland scored a goal and Yann Danis stopped 13-of-16 shots for the Canadiens, who went 0-for-5 on the power play.
