Flyers still seeking first win of season

NEWARK, New Jersey (Ticker) -- The Philadelphia Flyers have yet to earn a win this season. An end to their losing streak appears nowhere in sight.

The Flyers try to break into the win column on Friday when they visit the New Jersey Devils in the first game of a home-and-home series.

Philadelphia is the only team in the NHL without a win in the new campaign and is coming off a pair of losses to the San Jose Sharks.

After dropping an overtime decision on Saturday, Philadelphia saw a six-goal outburst go to waste as former Flyer Jeremy Roenick scored in the second round of the shootout to net the Sharks a 7-6 triumph and complete a rare cross-country, home-and-home sweep on Wednesday.

The Flyers have been outshot, 114-64, in the last three contests and have surrendered a league-high 29 goals already this season.

"You can't point the finger at anyone," Philadelphia right wing Joffrey Lupul said. "It's forwards, defense, goalies, everyone. It's all of our jobs to get better."

The Devils' campaign has been in direct contrast to the Flyers' dismal start.

Martin Brodeur made 21 saves and John Madden scored twice in a 72-second span in the second period as New Jersey cruised to a 5-0 victory over the Dallas Stars on Wednesday.

With the win and shutout, the four-time Vezina Trophy winner Brodeur now trails Hall of Famers Terry Sawchuk (103 shutouts) by five and Patrick Roy (551 victories) by eight for first place on the all-time lists.
