Final - 2OT
Sabres hope to keep alive points streak vs. Avalanche
Oct 25, 2008 - 10:44 AM Buffalo (6-0-1) at Colorado (4-3-0) 9:00 p.m. EDTDENVER (Ticker) -- The Buffalo Sabres will look to earn at least a point in their eighth straight game to start the season when they take on the Colorado Avalanche on Saturday.
Buffalo, which is tied for the lead in the Eastern Conference with 26 goals, is led by Thomas Vanek. The Austrian left wing leads the NHL with eight tallies on the season.
After suffering their first defeat of the campaign, a 3-2 shootout loss to the Atlanta Thrashers on October 18, the Sabres have bounced back with consecutive comeback victories.
The Northeast Division leaders overcame a 2-0 deficit against Boston before winning in a shootout on Tuesday and registered a dramatic victory over Minnesota two days later.
Adam Mair and Vanek scored two goals in a 46-second span late in the third period to forge a tie before the Sabres handed the Wild their first loss of the season on Derek Roy's goal 44 seconds into overtime.
Colorado is looking to build on an impressive division win Thursday, a 4-1 victory over the Edmonton Oilers.
The Avalanche dropped their first three games of the season but have scored 18 goals in their last four games to reel off four consecutive wins. Milan Hejduk leads the team with six goals, while Paul Stastny and captain Joe Sakic have registered nine and seven assists, respectively.
