Senators hope to end slide vs. Maple Leafs

TORONTO (Ticker) -- The Toronto Maple Leafs enter Saturday's contest against the division-rival Ottawa Senators two days after snapping a five-game losing streak in Boston.

While they did manage to salvage three points via shootout losses, the Maple Leafs had been sputtering offensively prior to Thursday's four-goal outburst.

Toronto had managed just three goals in three previous games and trailed, 2-0, after the first period against Boston. But four different players scored goals and Vesa Toskala turned aside all 20 shots he faced over the final two sessions to seal the Maple Leafs' first victory since the season opener.

Defensemen Mike Van Ryn and Anton Stralman scored their first goals of the season, with Stralman's proving to be the game-winner midway through the final session.

Ottawa will look to snap its own three-game losing streak as it hopes to jump on Toronto early. The Senators have fallen behind by at least two goals in each of the three losses.

In Friday's setback to Anaheim, backup goaltender Alex Auld spotted the Ducks a 4-0 lead before the Senators staged a late rally, scoring three goals in a 4:01 span of the third period before coming up short.

Blue-liner Filip Kuba recorded two assists for Ottawa, giving him at least one point in all seven games this season.
