Bruins not taking Thrashers lightly
Oct 25, 2008 - 10:46 AM Atlanta (2-3-2) at Boston (2-2-3) 7:00 p.m. EDTBOSTON (Ticker) -- The Boston Bruins recently took a struggling team lightly and suffered their third straight loss.
The Bruins will try to avoid the same mistake when they go for their first home win of the season against the Atlanta Thrashers on Saturday.
After enduring back-to-back losses, both in a shootout, Boston likely thought they would have no trouble rebounding against the Toronto Maple Leafs, who entered Tuesday's contest on a five-game losing streak after posting their only win in the season opener against the Detroit Red Wings.
Despite taking a two-goal lead in the first period, the Bruins fell apart in the final two sessions as the Maple Leafs posted a 4-2 victory.
"I don't think we played well from start to finish, and that's disappointing," Boston coach Claude Julien said after the setback. "We have warned our players for the last two days that this was a hard-working team that we were going to play tonight, and if we weren't ready to come ready to play and work hard, then it was going to be a long night, and they had to find out the hard way."
The Bruins now welcome the Thrashers, who have lost two in a row and five of six overall. Atlanta's only wins in the new campaign came during a 7-4 season-opening victory over the Washington Capitals and a shootout triumph over the Buffalo Sabres last Saturday.
The Thrashers suffered a 5-3 setback at Detroit on Friday as former teammate Marian Hossa scored two goals and set up another for the Red Wings.
