Rangers look to extend winning streak to four vs. Sabres
Nov 26, 2006 - 3:21 PM Buffalo (18-3-2) at NY Rangers (13-9-1) 7:00 pm ESTNEW YORK (Ticker) - The New York Rangers are looking for a season-best winning streak. They will have to do it against the Eastern Conference's best team.
The Rangers will take on the first-place Buffalo Sabres at Madison Square Garden on Sunday.
New York has not won four contests in a row since a seven-game winning streak last season. However, the Sabres have lost only one contest on the road this season on their way to the best record in the conference (18-3-2), including a 10-game road winning streak to start the campaign.
Martin Straka scored with three seconds left in overtime and Jaromir Jagr netted his 12th goal of the season as the Rangers won for the eighth time in 12 games with a 2-1 victory over the Pittsburgh Penguins on Friday.
Henrik Lundqvist made 28 saves and raised his record to 11-7-0 for New York which has won five of six overtime contests.
Buffalo suffered a rare loss on Thursday against Montreal. After defeating the Canadiens twice already this season, the Sabres dropped a 2-1 decision in overtime. Goaltender Ryan Miller turned away 28 shots and fell to 11-2-2 this season.
The Sabres have the previous two meetings against the Rangers this season, outscoring their in-state rivals 11-7.
