Flyers look to bounce back vs. Senators
Nov 6, 2008 - 11:25 AM Philadelphia (4-4-3) at Ottawa (5-5-2) 7:30 p.m. ESTOTTAWA (Ticker) -- The Philadelphia Flyers have been the streakiest team in the NHL thus far. They are hoping an extended run in the wrong direction is not about to begin.
The Flyers will look to avoid consecutive losses when they face the Ottawa Senators on Thursday.
Philadelphia began the season 0-3-3 before a four-game winning streak that saw it score a total of 19 goals.
But the Flyers fell back down to earth on Sunday, dropping a 5-4 decision at home to the Edmonton Oilers. Martin Biron only was able to stop 23 of 28 shots in the loss and owns a robust 3.79 goals-against average in eight games - seven starts - this season.
But Philadelphia's offense has been impressive in the early going, with Simon Gagne and captain Mike Richards leading the way with 14 points apiece. Mike Knuble has been on fire of late, tallying in each of the last five games.
The Senators should prove to be a difficult test for the Flyers. Behind star scorers Dany Heatley, captain Daniel Alfredsson and Jason Spezza, the club is 3-0-1 over its last four games, holding opponents to a total of six goals over that stretch.
Ottawa is coming off a 2-1 overtime triumph over the Washington Capitals in which goaltender Alex Auld made 26 saves. Auld, who has made six straight starts, owns a 1.96 goals-against average this season.
