Doan, Coyotes hope for more sparks against Wild
Nov 13, 2008 - 11:33 AM Phoenix (8-6-0) at Minnesota (8-4-1), 8:00 pm ESTST. PAUL, Minnesota (Ticker) -- Being the youngest team in the NHL has become the tag of the Phoenix Coyotes. Their veterans, however, are behind their current winning streak.
Captain Shane Doan and goaltender Ilya Bryzgalov hope to lead the Coyotes to their fourth straight win when they visit the Minnesota Wild on Thursday.
Phoenix has won three in a row for the first time since February 14-18 of last season after a 5-2 victory over the Columbus Blue Jackets on Wednesday. Doan recorded two tallies for his third two-goal game of the season and 30th of his career.
Bryzgalov was brilliant once again in his seventh consecutive start, turning aside 31 shots and holding the opposition to less than three goals for the sixth time in that span.
Other than a three-game stretch when he gave up four goals twice and six goals once, Bryzgalov has allowed more than two goals in a game just once.
Second-year center Peter Mueller has recorded points in seven of his last 10 games, while 10-year veteran Olli Jokinen has nine points over a seven-game stretch.
Due to shoddy offensive production, the Wild have dropped four of six. They are coming off a 2-0 loss to the Vancouver Canucks on Saturday and have scored just 10 goals in their last six contests.
Minnesota has not tallied more than three goals in a game since October 16, a 6-2 win over the Florida Panthers.
