San Jose looks to bounce back at home

Nov 13, 2008 - 11:40 AM Calgary (9-7-1) at San Jose (13-3-1), 10:30 pm EST

SAN JOSE, California (Ticker) -- It took quite a while for the San Jose Sharks to be solved at HP Pavilion. They hope to get back on the winning track -- immediately.

Two nights after suffering their first loss at home and second overall, the Sharks look to get back to their winning ways when they host the Calgary Flames on Thursday.

San Jose received two goals from Devin Setoguchi and a power-play goal from defenseman Rob Blake, but it was not enough to overcome the Nashville Predators as it fell to 9-0-1 at HP Pavilion.

In their 4-3 overtime win on Tuesday, the Predators were outshot, 57-29 overall, and 21-6 margin in the first period. However, they denied the Sharks' pursuit of becoming the first team to open a season with 10 consecutive home wins since the 1963-64 Blackhawks started a league-record 11-0-0 on home ice. The 1925-26 Ottawa Senators are the only other team to win their first 10 home games.

The 57 shots marked a franchise record for San Jose, which has two games with 50 or more shots and a third with 49 this season.

After missing three games, injured right wing Jonathan Cheechoo might be back in the Sharks' lineup, but it looks as if it will take a little longer for goaltender Evgeni Nabokov to return.

Nabokov did not skate Tuesday and said he didn't know when he would be on the ice again, according to a published report.

"I think we'll take it a day at a time and see how it is, because it's been a different feeling every day," Nabokov told the Marin Independent Journal. "It's all going forward ... but it's not getting much better."

Nabokov was referring to the unspecified lower-body injury suffered while he made the final shootout save in a 5-4 victory over the St. Louis Blues on Thursday.

Calgary is coming off a 4-3 win over the Toronto Maple Leafs on Tuesday, avoiding its fifth loss in the last six games.

Dustin Boyd had two goals, and defenseman Dion Phaneuf and captain Jarome Iginla added tallies as the Flames supported goaltender Miikka Kiprusoff, who made 29 saves.

Kiprusoff had yielded 16 goals in his three previous games, including six in each of the last two.
