Sharks seek revenge against Predators

Nov 17, 2008 - 2:20 PM San Jose (15-3-1) at Nashville (9-7-1), 8:00 pm EST

NASHVILLE, Tennessee (Ticker) -- The Nashville Predators have done something no other opponent has to the San Jose Sharks - beat them at home.

Looking for a similar result at the Sommet Center, the Predators can extend their season-high three-game winning streak against the Sharks on Monday.

With Tuesday's 4-3 overtime victory, the Predators handed the Sharks their lone home loss of the season. Dan Ellis made 54 saves and survived San Jose's blitzkrieg as it posted a franchise-record 57 shots in the losing effort.

Ellis made 33 saves in Saturday's 3-1 win over the Los Angeles Kings for his third straight victory, improving to 7-7-1 with a 3.02 goals-against average. He has faced 124 shots in the last three games, turning aside all but eight of them.

Nashville has enjoyed success at home as well, posting a 5-1-0 record at the Sommet Center. However, the Predators are just 4-6-1 on the road.

San Jose's 10-0-1 mark at HP Pavilion is a stark contrast from its 5-3-0 mark on the road, but it walked away with a 6-5 win in Chicago on Sunday.

Defenseman Dan Boyle scored two goals, and his 16 points are second to Nashville's Shea Weber (18) for tops in the NHL for all blue-liners.

Devin Setoguchi netted what stood to be the game-winner with 4:15 left in the third period Sunday and Milan Michalek registered his third tally in the last two contests for San Jose. Setoguchi has 10 goals - one less than his total in 44 games during his rookie campaign last season.

San Jose goaltender Brian Boucher has started the previous five games in the wake of Evgeni Nabokov's injury. Nabokov, who injured himself on the final play of a 4-3 shootout win over the St. Louis Blues on November 6, has not stated when he will return to the ice.

Boucher is 3-1-1 in his stretch filling in for Nabokov, but has yielded 14 goals in that span. The 31-year-old is 5-1-1 overall with two shutouts.
