Lehtonen hopes to follow up shutout with win
Nov 28, 2006 - 2:51 PM Atlanta (14-7-4) at NY Rangers (13-9-2) 7:00 pm ESTNEW YORK (Ticker) -- Kari Lehtonen is coming off a shutout. On Tuesday, he has to contend with the likes of Jaromir Jagr and Brendan Shanahan when the Atlanta Thrashers visit the New York Rangers on Tuesday.
Lehtonen turned aside 37 shots to record his sixth career shutout and Ilya Kovalchuk scored the lone goal in a 1-0 victory over the Florida Panthers on Saturday.
Atlanta was 0-for-3 on the power play but blanked the Panthers on their seven opportunities with the extra man.
The Rangers had their three-game road trip snapped in a 3-2 overtime loss to the Buffalo Sabres on Sunday.
Martin Straka scored both goals for New York while Henrik Lundqvist recorded 28 saves. Marek Malik assist on both of Straka's goals.
The Rangers were scoreless in five power-play opportunities but held Buffalo to only one goal in 10 power-play chances.
Jagr leads the NHL with 37 points and 25 assists while Shanahan tops the league with 17 goals.
Kovalchuk and Marian Hossa are tied for second with 16 goals apiece.
No one has shouted yet.
