Sharks seek seventh straight win
Nov 29, 2008 - 11:28 AM San Jose (19-3-1) at Phoenix (10-10-2), 9:00 pm ESTGLENDALE, Arizona (Ticker) -- The San Jose Sharks have been nearly impossible to beat at home. Lately, they have been just as dominant on the road.
Armed with the league's best offense, the Sharks can notch their second seven-game win streak of the season when they visit the Phoenix Coyotes on Saturday.
San Jose, which leads the NHL with 89 goals, won seven straight from October 25-November 8. However, their run ended with a 4-2 loss at Phoenix the next night.
During their current six-game win streak, the Sharks have netted 32 goals and benefited from the return of goaltender Evgeni Nabokov. Sidelined for seven contests with a lower-body injury, Nabokov returned for their 3-2 overtime win against the Chicago Blackhawks on Wednesday and then made 25 saves in a 6-2 drubbing of the Dallas Stars two nights later.
The Sharks have scored six or more goals in four of their last six games and scored four or more goals seven times this month.
San Jose is 12-0-1 at home and 7-3-0 on the road.
Phoenix claimed its second win in eight contests with a 2-1 victory over the Colorado Avalanche on Friday and did so without injured center Olli Jokinen. Acquired via trade with the Florida Panthers on the offseason, Jokinen's streak of consecutive games played ended at 397. He is expected to miss two to four weeks with an ailing shoulder.
Goaltender Ilya Bryzgalov had previously started 11 straight games, but Mikael Tellqvist has been in net for three of the Coyotes' last four.
Tellqvist stopped 37 shots against Colorado and his efforts were needed to support his team, which has scored three goals or less in 15 of its 22 games.
