Coyotes trying to turn around woeful offense

Dec 4, 2008 - 11:23 AM Toronto (9-10-6) at Phoenix (11-11-2), 9:00 pm EST

GLENDALE, Arizona (Ticker) -- As a player, Wayne Gretzky set virtually all of the offensive records in the NHL. The Phoenix Coyotes coach hasn't seen his team have the same scoring touch this season.

The Coyotes will try to end their offensive woes and record their fourth win in five contests when they face the Toronto Maple Leafs on Thursday.

Phoenix has a Western Conference-low 56 goals, finding the back of the net more than four times just once in 24 games.

Rookie Enver Lisin scored a pair of goals Tuesday to lead the Coyotes to a 4-2 triumph over the Los Angeles Kings. A 22-year-old who spent significant time in the American Hockey League, Lisin has four goals and six points in eight games this season.

The Maple Leafs have not shared their opponent's problem of scoring goals. Their struggles are on the other side of the rink.

Toronto ranks 28th in the league - behind the Atlanta Thrashers and Dallas Stars, surrendering 88 goals. Vesa Toskala has not helped, posting a 9-7-5 record with a 3.13 goals--against average and dreadful .888 save percentage.
