Rangers continue trip through California with Kings
Dec 17, 2008 - 11:21 AM NY Rangers (21-11-2) at Los Angeles (13-12-5), 10:30 pm ESTLOS ANGELES (Ticker) -- Thanks to Nigel Dawes, the New York Rangers enjoyed their first stop in the "Golden State."
The Rangers will aim for their third consecutive victory when they continue their three-game road trip through California against the Los Angeles Kings on Wednesday.
Dawes used a great individual effort to snap a tie with 3:16 remaining in the third period Tuesday as New York posted a 3-1 triumph over the Anaheim Ducks.
With the score knotted at 1-1, Dawes intercepted an outlet pass by Anaheim defenseman Kent Huskins, skated around blue-liner Chris Pronger in the right circle and fired a quick wrist shot that trickled between Jonas Hiller's pads.
Captain Chris Drury and Nikolai Zherdev also scored and Henrik Lundqvist made 19 saves for the Rangers, who won in regulation for the first time since November 24. New York has gone 6-4-0 over that 10-game stretch.
The Kings failed to win their third straight contest Monday, falling to the San Jose Sharks, 3-2, in a shootout. Teddy Purcell scored a goal and set up another for Los Angeles, which is concluding a four-game homestand.
After finishing the 2007-08 season with the worst record in the Western Conference, the Kings are currently in a three-way tie for ninth.
Los Angeles is 3-1-2 in its last six games.
