Flyers attempt to build on momentum vs. Devils

Dec 2, 2006 - 4:39 PM New Jersey (13-9-2) at Philadelphia (8-15-3) 7:30 pm EST

PHILADELPHIA (Ticker) -- It has taken a while for the Philadelphia Flyers' coaching change to have a lasting impact.

John Stevens looks to guide the Flyers to their fourth win in five games Saturday, when they battle their Atlantic Division-rival, the New Jersey Devils.

Replacing Ken Hitchcock after Philadelphia started the campaign by dropping seven of its first eight games, Stevens went through his own struggles. The Flyers lost their first six games in November before ending the month with five wins in nine outings.

Simon Gagne scored his 14th goal of the season - a shorthanded tally - and Mike Knuble added his ninth on a power play for Philadelphia in Thursday's 3-2 victory over the New York Islanders.

Returning home after losing the last four contests of a five-game road trip, New Jersey raised its home record to 9-1-1 with Friday's 5-2 victory over the Pittsburgh Penguins.

Patrik Elias had a goal and two assists, Jamie Langenbrunner and Brian Gionta added power-play tallies and Martin Brodeur made 23 saves to raise his season-record to 13-9-1.

Although the Devils have lost five of their last seven visits here, they posted a 3-2 home victory over Philadelphia on October 14.
