Surging Bruins visit Ovechkin, Capitals
Jan 17, 2009 - 11:27 AM Boston (33-7-4) at Washington (28-14-3), 7:00 pm ESTWASHINGTON (Ticker) -- The Boston Bruins have the best record in the NHL, but will have to contain the league's best player to extend their winning streak.
The Bruins will seek their fifth consecutive win when they take on Alex Ovechkin and the Washington Capitals on Saturday.
In their only other meeting this season, Ovechkin netted a goal and set up another to lead the Capitals to a 3-1 victory on December 10. It was Washington's third straight home win over Boston.
The reigning Hart Trophy recipient, Ovechkin has recorded 29 goals and 28 assists with a plus-13 rating this season. He had two goals and an assist during Wednesday's 6-3 triumph over the Pittsburgh Penguins.
Marc Savard and Martin St. Pierre scored and All-Star Tim Thomas made 40 saves Thursday, leading the Bruins to a 2-1 victory over the lowly New York Islanders.
Boston has won 14 of its last 16 contests.
