Rangers try to snap three-game losing streak

Dec 3, 2006 - 3:19 PM NY Islanders (13-9-3) at NY Rangers (13-9-4) 5:00 pm EST

NEW YORK (Ticker) -- The New York Rangers try to break a three-game losing streak when they host their Atlantic Division rival New York Islanders on Sunday.

The two bitter division rivals meet for the first of eight regular-season meetings. The Rangers went 5-2-1 against the Islanders last season.

All three of the Rangers' losses have come in overtime or a shootout, two of which were against the Buffalo Sabres. The Sabres edged the Rangers, 4-3, on Friday in a shootout.

Michal Rozsival, Martin Straka and Michael Nylander scored for the Rangers in regulation. Nylander, Brendan Shanahan and Petr Prucha were denied by Buffalo goaltender Ryan Miller in the shootout.

The Islanders look for their second straight win after downing the Pittsburgh Penguins, 5-3, on Saturday.

Viktor Kozlov and Mike Sillinger scored twice while Miroslav Satan scored the other Islanders goal. Rick DiPietro made 34 saves for the Islanders, who went 2-for-4 on the power play.

Jason Blake added an assist for the Islanders and extended his point streak to eight games. Blake has five goals and six assists during the streak.
